The dual certification significantly strengthens Toyochem’s quality management framework.

MALAYSIA – Toyochem Speciality Chemical Sdn. Bhd., a part of Japan’s artience Group, has achieved HACCP and Codex Alimentarius Commission certification for its food-packaging production processes.
The achievement, together with the renewal of its GMP certification by TÜV NORD CERT GmbH in August 2026, confirms the company’s compliance under Category I: Production of Packaging Material for its full range of water-based coatings.
Robin Loke, Technical Director at Toyochem Speciality Chemical, said, “Achieving HACCP certification directly addresses our customers’ evolving demands for uncompromising material safety.”
“Every department played a part in this achievement, and our entire team is incredibly proud of this milestone. We will continue to elevate our standards to help customers seamlessly meet their food safety and compliance requirements.”
While GMP certification confirms operational hygiene and proper manufacturing controls, the new HACCP certification adds a process-based system that proactively identifies and eliminates hazards in coatings intended for food-contact packaging.
Together, they reinforce the company’s food-safety and quality-assurance capabilities, giving brand owners greater confidence as Toyochem expands internationally and pursues new opportunities in the global food-packaging market.
The company’s water-based coatings provide sustainable, functional alternatives to conventional PE lamination and extrusion processes.
Its FC Series delivers strong oil and water resistance for applications such as lunch boxes, burger wraps, and paper cups, with selected grades also offering heat-sealing capability.
The VTR Series provides a reliable water-vapour barrier to help preserve freshness in uses including paper pouches, while the HSL Series functions as a food-compliant primer that improves lay-flat performance and reduces leakage at creases and folds.
For packaging manufacturers and brands, the certification means the coatings are produced under strict control points designed to minimise migration and contamination risks.
Toyochem Speciality Chemical is a leading supplier of printing inks and functional materials for packaging and industrial markets worldwide.
A wholly owned subsidiary of Japan’s artience Group, it is headquartered in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, with manufacturing plants in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
The company was established in 1988 as Toyochem Sdn. Bhd. and became Toyochem Specialty Chemical Sdn. Bhd. in 2009 following a corporate merger.
