DG Paint invests USD 25M to expand manufacturing capacity in Uganda

The project is expected to contribute to local manufacturing, strengthen participation in Uganda’s economy, and support the transfer of skills and technology in paint production.

UGANDA – Indian paint manufacturer DG Paint Ltd is set to invest USD 25 million in Uganda to establish a fully integrated paint manufacturing plant, a project expected to expand local production, create employment, and support skills transfer.

According to the investment proposal, the plant will have an initial production capacity of 7,800 metric tonnes in its first year, with output expected to increase to 13,000 metric tonnes annually by the fifth year.

The facility is set to manufacture a broad range of products locally, including emulsion paints, gloss paints, texture coatings, industrial paints, and primers.

The project is expected to create approximately 200 direct jobs and about 2,000 indirect jobs.

The proposed investment was discussed during a meeting between a delegation from DG Paint Ltd, led by the company’s Director, Mr. Goswami D. Giri, and the Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development (Privatisation and Investment), who is also the Special Presidential Assistant for Local Content and Special Duties, Hon. Hajjat Aminah Mukalazi.

The meeting was also attended by the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) Director General, Mr. Robert Mukiza, whose institution is responsible for supporting and facilitating investment in Uganda.

The engagement forms part of ongoing government efforts to attract productive investments that expand local manufacturing, create employment opportunities, and build skills across key sectors of the economy.

If implemented as proposed, the DG Paint Ltd project would add to Uganda’s manufacturing base and create opportunities throughout the paint production and distribution value chain.

During the engagement, Hon. Mukalazi welcomed the company’s decision to invest in Uganda and appreciated DG Paint Ltd for selecting the country as its investment destination.

She encouraged the company to implement the proposed project on time and emphasised the importance of properly utilising any government land provided for the investment, in line with applicable requirements.

DG Paints offers a range of decorative and protective coating products for residential and commercial applications.

Its portfolio includes weather-protection paints, distempers, oil-based paints, spray paints, and wall putty used for surface preparation and finishing.

The company focuses on providing interior and exterior paint solutions in a variety of colours for homes, buildings, and general construction projects.
